What is marketing?

The dictionary definition of marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large. For a digital marketer though it can be much simpler. Think about your favorite store: Apple; Banana Republic; Ace Hardware. Did you notice anything in common with these stores? They all understand what their customers want and more importantly how they want to experience getting it. The same principles apply for digital marketing but with a few added bells and whistles thrown in on top of it all. This may sound complicated but trust me it’s not as hard as you think once you learn how to do it properly!

Do you need a marketing plan?

Don’t fall into one of these traps. Don’t launch a Facebook Page because your friends have them. Don’t design a new logo because you think that’s what a startup is supposed to do. And don’t hire an agency without figuring out first whether their offerings actually make sense for your business. Having a marketing plan and goals in place will help guide all of your decisions as you get your brand off of the ground. Sure, it might take some time up front, but if you don’t do it now, you’ll find yourself spinning around like a hamster on an exercise wheel—and getting nowhere fast.

How can you create your own marketing plan?

The process of creating a marketing plan requires you to take a cold, hard look at your strengths and weaknesses. You’ll have to figure out who your target audience is (and who it isn’t) and decide which mediums are most effective for reaching them. Once you’ve decided on what steps you want to take, deciding how long they should last can be tricky. How many resources should you commit? Is there a goal you’re hoping to achieve or something more general like awareness? Ideally, every marketing plan will have built-in goals so that everyone involved in creating it knows what they’re working toward. At very least, an outline can help keep things on track when things get busy or employees change over time.

What do you need to know about digital marketing?

There are many details you must know and consider in order to get your business up and running. This post will walk you through all of these specifics, ensuring that you’re fully prepared for your new business venture. [Here are some things digital marketers must be knowledgeable about: Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Pay-Per-Click Ads (PPC), Google My Business (Google Maps), Social Media Advertising & Management, Pay Per View, Email Marketing, Content Creation & Distribution].

What are the advantages of online advertising?

If you’re just starting out, online advertising is a great way to get your product in front of as many people as possible. Depending on your product or service, you may want to promote it on social media or opt for paid search instead of display ads. Regardless of which option you choose, there are a few advantages online ads have over traditional print and TV ads. The first advantage is cost: With digital advertising, you pay for each click that leads to an action; even with boosted posts and sponsored stories on Facebook, you’ll only pay if someone likes or shares your post. In other words, if somebody clicks through from Google and ends up buying something from your site but doesn’t tell their friends about it on Facebook or Twitter afterward—you didn’t pay anything!

How do influencers influence consumers?

It may seem simple, but one of a marketer’s main goals is to connect with and influence consumers. Influencers represent a powerful opportunity in that regard: They have relationships with customers and often have significant sway on their buying decisions. In fact, research from Nielsen shows that about 50% of consumers say they learn about new products through friends or family members. Therefore, identifying influencers in your market and working with them can be key when trying to spread awareness about your brand. What are some ways influencers can help you reach customers? Here are some great tactics

What does SEO stand for and how does it affect my business?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a marketing strategy that helps your business rank highly in search engines for keywords associated with your business. Think of it as pay-per-click advertising, except instead of paying for ads, you’re simply improving your content and hoping it gets noticed. But SEO isn’t just about search engines; it also plays a role in how your website ranks on other platforms like Facebook and Twitter. For more information on SEO, read our beginner’s guide.

Where can I find examples of successful SEO strategies?

One of my favorite SEO resources is Moz’s Open Site Explorer. Just enter a domain, and it’ll show you how that site performed in its search rankings over time. However, SEO isn’t just about tracking keywords — it also involves building relevant links through outreach and your own web presence (your website/blog). After you optimize for organic search traffic, social media also plays a key role in SEO. You should create pages for all of your major social networks (Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn) on your website so that when people share those pages they have some place to link back to.
