Brown fat

Brown Adipose Tissue is a unique type of body fat. It contains special mitochondria that gets activated when we get cold. This mitochondria produces heat by burning calories. As we get older, we lose most of it and form a shiver response to cold temperatures. Fortunately, the world has developed enough to a stage where there are natural supplements for weight loss, which contain ingredients to increase brown adipose tissue in our bodies.

  • WHERE IS IT FOUND IN THE BODY?

The human body is a truly fascinating thing. There are so many functions that it performs in a bid to keep us comfortable and most importantly, alive. Babies have more brown adipose tissue behind their shoulder blades to keep them warm since they have not yet developed a shiver tendency. Studies have shown that adults have small amounts of brown adipose tissue in the neck, collarbone, spinal cord, and kidneys. Slimmer people usually have more brown fat. Women are also more inclined to have more brown adipose tissue than men.

  • HOW MANY TYPES OF FAT CELLS DOES THE HUMAN BODY HAVE?

The body has three types of fat cells. Brown, White, and Beige. These fats are stored as essential, subcutaneous, or visceral fats. The body stores energy for later use in white fat but too much of it can be harmful. Beige fat cells’ functions fall between white and brown fat cells. It is similar to brown adipose tissue in that it helps burn fat rather than store it. The body does not have much of the beige fat cells.

  • BROWN ADIPOSE TISSUE VS. WHITE ADIPOSE TISSUE

Our bodies build up white fat when we take in extra calories. These extra calories get stored by the body for use when we don’t get enough energy from food. White fat accounts for most of the fat in our bodies. It is typically stored in the thighs, stomach, and hips. Too much white fat in the stomach can raise the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. White fat is made of lipids, or fatty acids. They are found in the body’s connective tissues, usually beneath the skin (subcutaneous fat) and in the abdominal cavity (visceral fat).

The cells in brown fat are packed with iron rich mitochondria, which gives brown fat its color. They take in white fat and other nutrients like sugar and break them down to make energy. Brown fat has been shown to store more energy in a smaller space than white fat.

Our bodies have certain fats that are highly recruitable. This means that under the right conditions, our bodies can change these constitutive fats into brown fat. There are more capillaries in Brown fat than in white fat. These capillaries supply the tissue with oxygen and nutrients and distribute the produced heat throughout the body.

  • HOW DOES BROWN FAT WORK

When our bodies get cold, a hormone called norepinephrine is made. Brown fat has receptors for norepinephrine. When these receptors sense the hormone, they signal the mitochondria present in brown fat to start churning out energy. This process called thermogenesis, is what creates the warmth that helps us maintain our body temperature. During this process, the brown fat also burns calories.

  • BROWN FAT AND WEIGHT LOSS

A study found that brown fat filters out certain amino acids namely valine, leucine, and isoleucine, from the blood. These amino acids are gotten from foods like eggs, meat, fish, milk, and chicken. They can also be gotten from certain muscle-building supplements. In normal amounts, they’re good for you.

Having too much in your blood however, is linked to obesity and diabetes. Your body’s chances of filtering out these amino acids are lower if you have less brown fat. This means when their levels get too high, your risk of these conditions goes up.

Cold exposure increases circulating irisin. Irisin boosts insulin sensitivity, increases bone quality and bone quantity, aids in building lean muscle mass, and helps reduce obesity by converting white fat to brown fat, thus, providing many of the same benefits of exercise.

Another study looked at whether a drug like a natural supplement for weight loss could create the same reaction that cold causes in brown fat cells because triggering this reaction with medication means new leads to weight loss methods.

Treatment for obesity could help lower rates of diabetes but, there is an area of concern. It is that using extra energy can raise your heart rate and blood pressure, which could raise your risk of heart problems. However, with a natural supplement for weight loss specifically formulated with the right ingredients, this concern could be a thing of history.

One way to burn energy is through exercise. But brown fat contributes to energy use. By dispelling energy as heat, it counters weight gain. In another study done in California, it was found that when brown fat cells were active, the volunteers burned an extra 250 calories, an impressive increase of 1.8 times in the calorie-burning rate at the time.

In December 2016, researchers announced that they had found a signaling pathway which can start the process of turning white fat cells into brown fat cells, making them more likely to burn fat.
