Underdog Wine Co. owners Ryan and Jenny Sciara are opening a cozy neighborhood wine bar at 5514 Oak, just around the corner from their Brookside shop. The grand opening is expected in early January.
This Kansas City-based meal delivery service is expanding into the restaurant scene with its first location in Leawood at 4853 W. 117th St. Whole Harvest will focus on health, offering dishes like zucchini bread, loaded sweet potatoes, lentil pancakes, and edamame dip. The restaurant is set to open in the second week of January.
With two successful locations in Kansas City, Tiki Taco is venturing into Kansas with its first Overland Park location at 7514 W. 80th St. Fans can continue to enjoy their favorite crunchy tacos, nachos, burritos, and more, starting in January.
Transforming the former Steve’s Villa Capri, an Italian restaurant at 10412 Mastin St., into a Korean chicken restaurant and bar, longtime friends Kue-Jin Hwang, Sung Jo, and Kyoungmin Kim are finally realizing their dream. The grand opening is planned for January.
The team behind the popular Park Place Thai restaurant Bamboo Penny’s is opening a seafood and oyster bar concept in the same Leawood shopping center. Aqua Penny’s will serve lunch, dinner, happy hour, and brunch, with a projected opening in February.
Lottie’s Get Down
Located at 4057 Pennsylvania Ave., this Southern-fried chicken concept is being brought to life by the Nashville-based firm responsible for the Westport music venue Tin Roof. Lottie’s Get Down is set to open in early 2024.
The Blue Palm
Owners Dan Doty, Roxie Danner, and Houston DeFoe are planning a tiki bar in the Strawberry Hill space Mockingbird Lounge vacated this fall at 204 Orchard St. in Kansas City, Kansas. The Blue Palm is expected to open in early 2024.
Green Dirt on Oak
Sarah Hoffmann, artisan cheesemaker and owner of Green Dirt Farm in Weston, will open a fine-dining restaurant at 1601 Oak St. in the Crossroads area. In addition to serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the restaurant will feature her award-winning cheeses. The venue will also include a rooftop deck, event space, and production facility, with a projected opening in early 2024.
Las Vegas culinary transplants Josh and Kelly Bianchi plan to open a traditional Italian restaurant in the former Trago Bar & Tapas space at 9261 N.E. 83rd Terrace, near Liberty, Missouri. The menu will feature dishes like tonnarelli cacio e pepe pasta, wood-fired pizzas, and a pork trio, with a projected opening in early 2024.
Wichita-based Mediterranean restaurant Meddys, which already has locations in Brookside and Prairie Village, is expanding to Lenexa, on the southwest corner of West 88th Street and Maurer Road. The restaurant offers shawarmas, hummus plates, and salads inspired by owner Alex Harb’s Lebanese culture. Meddys is set to open in March.
Austin transplant Karson Thompson plans to open Kansas City’s first omakase restaurant at 2100 Central St. The intimate fine-dining sushi experience will be one of the city’s smallest, with just an eight-seat counter offering two seatings per night. Sushi Kodawari is slated to open in spring 2024.
Husband-and-wife duo Louis Guerrieri and Sarah Nelson, who opened the small-plates restaurant Ombra in 2022 at The Village at Briarcliff, are planning an upscale meat market and seafood counter at 4179 N. Mulberry Drive. The opening is scheduled for spring 2024.
The Fresh Mediterranean Co.
Originating inside a Lawrence Cenex gas station, this Middle Eastern restaurant is expanding into a fast-casual concept at 3904 Bell in Kansas City. Owner Hanif Lakhani will offer dishes like chicken shawarma, falafel, hummus, and gyros, with a projected opening in spring 2024.
Fox and Pearl’s Sunday barbecue pop-up is getting a permanent space in the West Side restaurant’s basement at 2139 Summit. The honky-tonk dive bar setting will feature barbecue sandwiches and tacos on the menu, with a projected opening in late spring or summer 2024.

Staci Cross, owner of a health restaurant in Leawood’s Mission Farms, is expanding her concept to Lenexa. The new restaurant will be part of a project dubbed Restaurant Row near 87th Street and Renner Boulevard, with a projected opening in September 2024.
